and for the football and sports club Bayer 04 Leverkusen. Back in the 12th century the city was founded as a small village on the Rhine river with the name Wiesdorf. The chemist Carl Leverkus built a dye factory in Wiesdorf in the year 1860 and called the the emerging settlement „Leverkusen“ after his family home in Lennep.
